Don Duthie (Class Of 1969)


Don (“Duff”) Duthie passed away peacefully at the age of 61 on April 1, 2013 in Glenboro Hospital after a long battle with COPD. Donald was born on September 4, 1951 at Carberry, Manitoba. The son of a CPR agent, he lived in Wapella, SK, MacGregor, Petersfield, Westbourne, Rapid City, and Douglas, MB. Donald graduated from Elton Collegiate in 1969. He had a variety of occupations from station agent at Alida, SK, to painter, to bartender, to taxi driver, and more. His last job was at McCain Foods at Carberry. An avid reader all his life, Donald always wanted to know more about the world and when the world of internet opened up for him he could expand his knowledge even further. He also enjoyed reading fantasy fiction, watching documentaries and he tried to never miss the evening news on TV. His cats, Miss Phitt and Chunk-Ki, were his constant companions. Donald was always ready for a game of cribbage and visit with good friends. He had a ready laugh for a good joke, an opinion on most things, and would give the shirt off his back if he thought it would help a friend or someone less fortunate. Donald loved life and his family. Don leaves to mourn his passing his sister Georgina (Gerald) Greenlay of Glenboro, MB, brother Hugh Duthie of Carberry, MB, foster-siblings Beverley (Paul) Eilers of Virden, MB and Lawrence (Edie) Johnson of Wetaskiwin, AB, niece Karina (Glen) Forster, nephews Alex Greenlay and Warren Duthie, great niece Beth Forster, and Uncle Jim Duthie, as well as numerous extended relatives and friends. Don was predeceased by his parents, George and Helen (nee Barron), and sister-in-law Leona. A Celebration of Don’s life will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the Knox Zion Presbyterian Church, Carberry, MB with Rev. Minho Yoo officiating.
